Sodium molybdate (Na₂MoO₄) is a white, water-soluble crystalline compound commonly used as a source of molybdenum. It is widely applied in agriculture as a fertilizer to improve plant growth, especially in molybdenum-deficient soils, and is also used in hydroponic farming due to its high solubility. In industrial applications, sodium molybdate is valued as an effective corrosion inhibitor in water treatment and metal systems. It is also used in nutritional supplements to provide essential micronutrients. The compound is stable under normal conditions and is usually prepared by dissolving molybdenum oxide (MoO₃) in sodium hydroxide solution.
